The Lowry

Manchester - United Kingdom

Summary

The Lowry is renowned as a hangout for Manchester’s celebrity elite, including the city’s famous footballers. But don’t let that put you off if you’re not a sports fan; this is a sophisticated and stylish hotel in a fantastic location.

Supremely spacious rooms, an excellent riverside restaurant and an inviting spa are just a few of the things that will make your stay extra special, and it’s no surprise that The Lowry is a member of the prestigious Leading Hotels of the World.

The hotel is set amongst Salford’s converted warehouses and luxury apartments, offering a more peaceful alternative to the city centre, but you’re still only a short walk from most of Manchester’s top attractions, including Canal Street and the famous Gay Village.

Nearby Attractions

The Lowry Hotel is in an excellent location next to the river Irwell, which divides Salford from Manchester city centre. It’s a short walk into town via the Santiago Calatrava-designed Trinity Bridge, with the Arndale shopping centre just a 10-minute stroll from the hotel.

Other nearby attractions include the Museum of Science and Industry, the chic independent boutiques of the Northern Quarter, and the pre-Raphaelite riches of the Manchester Art Gallery.

It’s a 20-minute walk from The Lowry to Canal Street and the Gay Village, where you’ll find a string of LGBT-friendly bars, clubs, restaurants and green spaces alongside the Rochdale Canal. A little bit further out is Rusholme’s famous ‘Curry Mile’, a 20-minute drive away, and there are plenty of great places to eat in Chinatown and the city centre.

Description

The amount of space offered by The Lowry’s 165 rooms and suites is a big selling point, and the décor is stylishly understated, making use of neutral tones, dark woods and floor-to-ceiling windows. All rooms have a smart TV, WiFi, mini bar, safe and tea/coffee making facilities. Upgrade to a Riverside Suite for extras including a kitchenette and in-suite check-in, or the Penthouse Suite for your own baby grand piano!

Indulge yourself at the wonderful spa, with six treatment rooms, a sauna, hair salon, mani-pedi suite and treatments by skincare experts QMS and Elemis. There is also a well-equipped gym, and personal training is available on request.

The glass-walled River Restaurant overlooks Santiago Calatrava’s iconic bridge over the Irwell, and offers a modern British menu making use of tasty locally sourced produce. The River Bar serves cocktails, sandwiches and light bites, and the Terrace is the perfect place for drinks and al fresco dining when the weather is playing ball.

The Sights of Salford

The Lowry Hotel sits on the edge of Salford and the city’s old docklands, now reinvented as a top-notch waterfront destination focused on culture, media and the arts. Salford’s transformation has been galvanised by the relocation of several BBC departments to the MediaCityUK development in Salford Quays, and the area is home to fascinating museums including The Lowry arts centre and the Imperial War Museum North. Salford is also where you’ll find Old Trafford, home to arguably the world’s most famous football club, Manchester United.
