The Independent Hotel is in the centre of Philadelphia’s Gayborhood, a vibrant and creative district where you’ll find a host of independently-owned and LGBT-friendly galleries, bars, restaurants and boutiques.
One of the city’s best loved parks, Rittenhouse Square, is just a 15-minute walk away, and you’re also close to Independence Hall, the iconic Liberty Bell and Christ Church, the last resting place of Benjamin Franklin.
Nearby cultural venues include the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts, the Academy of Music and the Walnut Street Theatre, the oldest in the USA, while Reading Terminal Market and the restaurants of 13th Street are a magnet for local foodies.
The Independent Hotel is petite at just 24 rooms, decorated in a tasteful and modern style. There’s a residential feel to the accommodation, and all rooms include a flatscreen TV, free WiFi, microwave and fridge. Some rooms also have a working fireplace, and most have a small sitting area.
Although there are no fitness facilities on site, all hotel guests enjoy complimentary access to a local gym. An excellent continental breakfast is delivered to your room daily at a time to suit you, and there is a complimentary wine reception every evening from Monday to Thursday.
There are two restaurants on the ground floor of the hotel: Little Nonna’s is a casual Italian-inspired affair, with a large courtyard for al fresco dining when the weather is good, while Bud & Marilyn’s serves up classic American comfort food, craft beers and spirits in a stylish mid-century modern dining room.

Art at The Independent
The Independent is situated in one of Philadelphia’s most creative neighbourhoods, and the hotel hosts a rotating exhibition of artworks by students from the Tyler School of Art. The hotel also has a partnership with the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and offers a special package which includes a two-day pass for the museum, giving you ample time to explore the impressive collections. Highlights include works by Picasso, Dalí, Van Gogh and Rodin, and the museum is also known for its steps, made famous by Sylvester Stallone in the ‘Rocky’ movies.

British Airways and American Airlines both have direct services from London to Philadelphia. Flying time is approximately 8½ hours.
