The Splendid Venice certainly lives up to its name, with stylish accommodation, an excellent restaurant and a fantastic location just steps from St Mark’s.
This charming hotel was originally a 16th century inn, and you really feel like you’re in the heart of the action, surrounded by swanky shopping streets and turquoise canals that bustle with tourist gondolas and locals going about their business. The hotel has its own canal entrance if you’re arriving by water taxi, and the fabulous roof terrace looks out across the bell towers and rooftops of central Venice.
Italian parent company Starhotels is committed to inclusivity and diversity, and the friendly staff will make you feel extremely welcome. If you’re looking for a characterful and comfortable base from which to explore Venice then this is a splendid choice.
Includes return economy flights. Two people sharing a room for 3 nights, departing in March 2018. Contact us for your specific requirements. From price for guidance only, all subject to availability.

- 165 rooms & suites with a classic style and Italian marble bathrooms
- Restaurant serving Venetian specialities
- Steps from the hustle & bustle of St Mark's Square

The Splendid Venice is in a great location just a few minutes’ walk from St Mark’s Square, where you’ll find the Doge’s Palace and the magnificent Basilica. The hotel overlooks the canals and narrow streets that link the square with the iconic Rialto bridge, and there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants nearby.
There is so much to recommend in Venice that we couldn’t possibly list it all here, but the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and the Gallerie dell’Accademia should be top of the list for art lovers, and the outer islands of Murano and Burano are known for their glassware and lacework respectively. One of the joys of Venice is getting lost in the maze-like backstreets and stumbling across something amazing, so make sure you get out and explore!
Venice is a very open and LGBT-friendly destination, though you won’t find that many dedicated bars and clubs. If you’re looking for more of a party scene then Padua is the place to be, reachable in under an hour from Venice by road or rail.
The Splendid’s 165 rooms and suites are smartly decorated in a classic yet contemporary style, with subtle tones, chic damask wallpaper and Italian marble bathrooms.
This being Venice, the rooms can be a little on the cosy side, but they’re all kitted out with a smart TV, WiFi, mini bar, safe, tea/coffee making facilities and a handy smartphone loaded with useful apps. Some also have a private balcony with fantastic views of St Mark’s.
Le Maschere restaurant is a classy affair serving Venetian specialities and Italian favourites, with plenty of seasonal ingredients and fresh local seafood on the menu. The Lounge Bar is a great spot for coffee, afternoon tea or an evening cocktail, with arched windows looking out onto the canal, and the hotel hosts regular live music.

Magnificent St Mark's
Piazza San Marco (St Mark’s Square) is the spectacular centrepiece at the heart of Venice, thronged with pigeons, tourists and locals touting for business. The stunning Basilica is one of the city’s most iconic sights, originally founded in the 9th century to house the body of St Mark and later rebuilt after a devastating fire. The Byzantine domes, marble-clad walls and shimmering mosaics combine in a fusion of architectural influences that reflects Venice’s history as a cosmopolitan centre of trade. It’s well worth planning ahead and booking a tour that allows you to bypass the inevitable queues to get in.
