Southernmost Beach Resort

Key West - USA

Life proceeds at a gentler pace in the Florida Keys, and this blissful beach resort is perfectly in tune with the chilled out island atmosphere of Key West.

The Southernmost is one of the few hotels in Key West with direct beach access, situated at the quieter southern end of Duval Street. There are plenty of picturesque spots to relax, including a private pier and three swimming pools, but you’re also within easy reach of Old Town’s lively LGBT-friendly nightlife.

Accommodation options include two charming historic guesthouses reserved exclusively for adults, making this a great choice for couples, and the hotel’s spa therapists will help you loosen up with a relaxing beachfront massage.

Nearby Attractions

Duval Street is the most famous thoroughfare in Old Town, Key West’s atmospheric historic quarter, where you’ll find everything from outrageous drag shows and brash bars to quirky galleries and independent boutiques.

There are several interesting museums in Key West, including the Museum of Art and History at the old Custom House, and just off Duval Street is the Spanish colonial house where Ernest Hemingway lived between 1931 and 1940, about 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel.

Mallory Square is the most popular spot for enjoying the beautiful Key West sunsets, and bustles with musicians and street performers. The most photographed spot on the island is Southernmost Point, where a buoy marks the southern tip of the continental USA, just a short stroll from the hotel.

The resort consists of 261 bright and beautifully appointed rooms, many of which enjoy idyllic ocean views. All rooms have a flatscreen HDTV, WiFi, mini fridge, coffee maker and safe, and some open onto a private balcony. The historic La Mer and Dewey House accommodation is particularly charming, reserved exclusively for adults, while the three bedroom Simonton Suite has a more residential feel, with a living room, kitchen and dining area.

Top up your tan on the private pier, make a splash with three gorgeous pools or feel the sand between your toes with a choice of two lovely beaches. Stay active with yoga on the beach, table tennis, bicycle rental, beach volleyball or a workout at the fitness centre. There is also a small spa offering beachfront massages and beauty treatments.

The Southernmost Beach Café serves tasty Caribbean cuisine in a relaxed seafront setting, and there are several places where you can quench your thirst, including a beach bar and the lively Pineapple Bar on Duval Street.

LGBT Key West

Key West has always welcomed a diverse array of visitors, from Caribbean pirates and Cuban exiles to artists seeking inspiration, and the playwright Tennessee Williams was one of the island’s first famous gay residents. It was during the 1970s that Key West really took off as an LGBT hotspot, with many gay men and women lured here by the balmy climate, open-minded atmosphere and affordable but dilapidated Victorian houses just begging to be renovated. While many in the community have lamented Key West’s gentrification of late, this is still a fantastic choice for an LGBT-friendly beach holiday.

How to get here...

There is a variety of direct services available from the UK to the USA. We recommend flying to Miami and making Key West part of a multi-centre itinerary. Flying time to Miami is approx. 9 hours.

car hire

Hiring a car is a great way to explore Florida and the Keys. It takes around 4-5 hours to get to Key West depending on traffic but it's an easy drive and other islands can be explored en route.
