SLS South Beach

Miami - USA

Designer Philippe Starck’s imagination has been well and truly let off the leash at this eccentric, eclectic and ever-so-Instagrammable South Beach hotel.

The style is best described as 18th century France meets A-list pool party; it sounds like it shouldn’t work, but somehow it really does. And if Starck’s interiors weren’t surreal enough, how about a penthouse designed by rock star Lenny Kravitz?

There’s substance to go with the style, including two superb restaurants and a glamorous pool club, and the location is hard to beat, just steps from Ocean Drive. The SLS South Beach is also a popular choice with the LGBT crowd, extending a warm and wacky welcome to all guests.

Dining at the award-winning Bazaar by José Andrés is a real highlight, with a menu that draws on both Andrés’s Spanish heritage and the Latin flavours of Miami. Starck Contrasts

Philippe Starck’s distinctive interiors were inspired by Louis XV’s mistress Madame de Pompadour, and the rooms include flamboyant design flourishes such as white chaise-longues, pink-tinted glass and slightly naughty ceiling mirrors. One of the hotel’s most striking features is the giant silver rubber duck that sits incongruously next to one of the swimming pools, which makes only slightly more sense when you find out that Starck’s designs envisioned the pools as oversized bathtubs!
