Naples - Italy

The stylish Romeo hotel is a real diamond in the rough, a high-tech luxury retreat in the heart of gritty Naples.

Formerly the home of the Lauro shipping company, this striking building was given a full makeover by leading architects Kenzo Tange & Associates. Designer furnishings, eclectic artworks and the latest in-room technology combine to create an exclusive boutique hotel that turns preconceptions about Naples on their head.

The fantastic facilities include a Michelin-starred restaurant, an amazing spa and a rooftop pool with spectacular views over the Bay of Naples, and the central location means you’re a short walk from the city’s top attractions. Romeo has also carved out a reputation as the number one choice for LGBT travellers in Naples, with a friendly welcome guaranteed.

Nearby Attractions

Romeo is right next to the busy port, where you can catch a ferry to destinations including Capri, Ischia, Amalfi and Positano. The ruins of Pompeii are a must-visit if you’ve never been to this part of Italy before, about 30 minutes’ drive along the coast.

However, there’s plenty to see right here in Naples; the medieval Castel Nuovo is just a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and it’s about 15 minutes to the historic centre and Spaccanapoli, the city’s most famous thoroughfare. This area is home to many beautiful old churches, while just to the north is the Via dei Tribunali, where you’ll find some of the city’s best pizzerias.

A top choice for nightlife is the Piazza Bellini, a 20-minute walk from the hotel. This lively square is surrounded by buzzing bars, including many of the city’s best LGBT-friendly venues.

Romeo’s 82 rooms and suites are bright and modern, kitted out with high end Italian furniture, and the rooms on the higher floors have the best views. All rooms include an LED TV, WiFi, mini bar, Nespresso machine and safe, and the higher suite categories have everything from outdoor Jacuzzis to their own sauna and steam room.

Head up to the stunning rooftop pool for fantastic views of Vesuvius, Capri and the Bay of Naples, or lose yourself in the fabulous Dogana del Sale spa, which includes six treatment rooms, Finnish and infrared saunas, a steam bath, salt room, frigidarium and more. There is also a fitness centre, games lounge and a kids’ play room with games and activities.

One of the real highlights of a stay at Romeo is the Michelin-starred Il Comandante restaurant, serving exquisite gourmet cuisine by chef Salvatore Bianco. There is also a pool bar on the ninth floor serving breakfast, lunch, snacks and cocktails, while the ground floor Romeo Bar is an innovative fusion of Japanese cuisine and classic Neapolitan dishes, complete with an adjoining cigar room.
