Hotel History

The Loews Philadelphia Hotel is housed within one of the earliest skyscrapers built in the USA, a 33-storey modernist masterpiece that was originally home to the Philadelphia Saving Fund Society. The building was designed in what came to be known as the International style, influenced by European modernism, and symbolised a dramatic break with the more ornate architecture that had gone before it. The iconic red neon PSFS sign up on the roof has been kept for posterity, and you can still see original design features such as the bank vault doors in the lobby.
