Other neighbourhood highlights include the Olympic Sculpture Park and iconic music venue The Crocodile, which was at the heart of Seattle’s grunge scene in the 1990s.

It’s a 15-minute walk to the waterfront, where you can catch a ferry to laid back Bainbridge Island or check out the sea otters at Seattle Aquarium. The hotel is also just around the corner from Pike Place Market, where you can spend hours browsing the stalls selling fresh fish, fruit, flowers, whisky, comic books and much more besides.

Seattle is one of America’s most LGBT-friendly cities, and the scene is centred on the Capitol Hill neighbourhood, a 10-minute drive from the Kimpton. Here you’ll find a host of great clubs, bars and restaurants, along with some quirky shops and elegant 19th century mansions.

Seattle's Neighbourhoods

Seattle is best understood as a patchwork of diverse neighbourhoods, each with their own unique character and vibe. The former Scandinavian quarter of Ballard is now foodie central, while eccentric Fremont is known for its Sunday farmer’s market, Lenin statue and giant troll sculpture. The elegant residential district of Queen Anne is home to the iconic Space Needle tower, the West Edge boasts attractions including Pike Place Market and the Seattle Museum, and the Retail Core is the place to shop till you drop. Seattle has also become a hub for tech companies, start-ups and entrepreneurs, and Amazon’s global HQ is just a 15-minute walk from the Kimpton.
