Nearby Attractions

Hell’s Kitchen is the epicentre of New York’s LGBT scene, an arty neighbourhood that’s full of great cocktail bars, independent restaurants and markets.

The fact that you’re in Midtown means you’re within easy reach of many of the city’s most famous sights. Times Square and the theatres of Broadway are just a 15-minute walk away, while Central Park is a 20-minute stroll north from the hotel.

Other nearby must-sees include the High Line, an elevated park that runs for a mile and a half along an old freight train line. The area is also very well connected by public transport, so it’s easy to hop on the Subway and explore further afield.

Most of the 222 rooms and suites enjoy views of the Manhattan skyline or the Hudson River, with high ceilings and large windows creating a loft-style look. In your room you’ll find a flatscreen TV, iPod dock, WiFi, yoga mat, mini bar and safe, and many rooms have a separate shower and soaking tub. Our favourite room has to be the aptly named Heaven Over Hell Penthouse Suite, a stunning space with widescreen views of the city.

The InkSpa offers an escape from the hustle and bustle, with a range of soothing treatments using Elemis products. Other facilities include complimentary bicycle hire and a fitness centre where you can borrow an iPod pre-loaded with tunes to soundtrack your workout.

The excellent PRINT. The History of Hell's Kitchen

Hell’s Kitchen, also known as Clinton, was once a gritty working class neighbourhood where poor dockworkers lived in crowded tenements. A reputation for crime and gang violence gave the area its unusual name, and inspired both the musical ‘West Side Story’ and Herbert Asbury’s book ‘The Gangs of New York’, the basis for Martin Scorsese’s 2002 film. These days it’s an altogether more genteel neighbourhood, and the gangsters of old have given way to artists, actors and young professionals.
