Kimpton Hotel Palomar

Philadelphia - USA

This elegantly Art Deco hotel is the perfect base for exploring the storied streets of Philadelphia, a city rich in history and revolutionary heritage.

The building that now houses the Kimpton Hotel Palomar dates back to 1929, sensitively restored to create an ambience that is both sophisticated and playful. Quirky design touches, such as the brightly coloured busts of local hero Benjamin Franklin in the lobby, are a reminder that this is, after all, a Kimpton hotel.

LGBT travellers are assured of a warm welcome from this famously progressive hotel chain, and it’s just a short walk to Philly’s well-established Gayborhood. You’re also within easy strolling distance of some of the city’s top historical and cultural attractions, as well as the smart shopping and trendy restaurants of Rittenhouse Square.

There goes the Gayborhood

Philadelphia is known as the ‘City of Brotherly Love’, founded by the Englishman William Penn in 1682 based on the ideals of equality and freedom of expression. The area known as the ‘Gayborhood’ has been at the heart of Philly’s LGBT community for at least 40 years, though the local gay bars endured prejudice and police harassment well into the 1980s. Nowadays Penn’s principles are more faithfully adhered to and Philadelphia is one of the most LGBT-friendly cities in America, with the Gayborhood at its heart, easily identified by the rainbow flag street signs at the main intersections.
