Hotel De Hallen

Amsterdam - The Netherlands

Hotel De Hallen is a hip industrial-chic space crafted from an old tram depot, in the heart of Amsterdam’s up-and-coming Oud-West district.

The quirky and contemporary style is perfectly in keeping with the hotel’s surroundings, a neighbourhood that fizzes with creative energy and a burgeoning foodie scene. Rooms open onto a light-flooded central hall scattered with striking sculptures and mid-century furnishings, and the friendly staff extend a warm welcome to all guests.

It’s a popular choice with LGBT travellers, and the location offers the best of both worlds, showcasing the modern face of Amsterdam yet still just a 10-minute tram ride from all the major sights in the city centre.

The hotel is also a short walk from the famous Jordaan district, home to Anne Frank’s house, some excellent markets and a host of upmarket shops and restaurants.

On the southern edge of Oud-West is the beautiful Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s most popular green space. Just to the east of the park are the Van Gogh Museum and the recently renovated Rijksmuseum, which houses a spectacular collection of Dutch Golden Age paintings.

From the hotel it’s a 10-minute tram ride to the city centre, where you’ll find the infamous Red Light District and Amsterdam’s best gay nightlife, centred around Reguliersdwarsstraat.

Hotel De Hallen’s 57 rooms are arranged around a large central hall, giving the hotel a sociable and communal feel. The rooms are tastefully decorated in subtle tones with chic Scandinavian furniture, and are equipped with amenities including a smart TV, WiFi, Nespresso machine, mini bar, safe and indulgent bathroom amenities from The Spa Collection. The spacious Junior Suites also have a Jacuzzi bath.

Remise47 is a bistro-style restaurant, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu offers a range of international dishes, with a particular emphasis on French cuisine. There are also plenty of great restaurants in the surrounding area, with new openings sprouting up all the time, and the neighbouring Foodhallen is home to more than 20 different food stalls.

Outside the hotel there is a lovely terrace that catches plenty of sun during the summer, while indoors the bar does great cocktails. You can also hire a bicycle and explore the city as the locals do, on two wheels.
