Nearby Attractions

The Athenian Riviera is often overlooked in favour of Greece’s better-known resort destinations, but this stretch of coastline has some great beaches, fascinating archaeological sites and glamorous open-air nightclubs.

It’s a 40-minute drive to Cape Sounion at the southern tip of the Attica peninsula, a fantastic sunset spot where the ancient Greeks built the Temple of Poseidon on a rocky headland looking out over the Saronic Gulf.

Other attractions close to the resort include the healing waters of Lake Vouliagmeni, and it’s about 50 minutes’ drive into Athens itself, home to awesome sights such as the Acropolis, the Agora and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

There is a huge amount of choice when it comes to accommodation, with 267 rooms, suites, bungalows and villas spread around the peninsula. All rooms have a private balcony or patio, flatscreen TV, WiFi, Nespresso machine, mini bar and safe, and some of the ground floor rooms have direct pool access. Upgrade options include seafront bungalows, suites with private gardens, villas with private pools and residences offering up to three bedrooms and extra facilities such as a kitchenette and private gym.

Cool off at the freshwater pool or top up your tan at one of 16 private beaches. Active pursuits on offer include tennis, volleyball, basketball and watersports including scuba diving, waterskiing and windsurfing. There is also a fitness centre, open air cinema, kids’ club, beauty salon and the serene ThalaSpa Chenot Spa, which offers an appealing menu of massages, detox treatments, body scrubs, anti-stress programmes and more.

There are seven restaurants to choose from, offering everything from traditional Cretan and Mediterranean fare to cuisine from as far afield as Japan and Polynesia. You can grab a light bite during the day at the more casual beach and poolside venues, and there are also three bars.

The Athenian Riviera

The Apollo Coast, also known as the Athenian Riviera, is where city-dwellers come to play. Fashionable bars and exclusive beach clubs line the shore, and many of the hottest spots rival the Greek islands for glitz and glamour. The Riviera is a magnet for sailors and yachtie types, and a day spent island-hopping between hidden coves and harbours is a great way to see this part of Greece. There are also some popular gay beaches on the Riviera, such as laid-back Limanakia beach on the Vouliagmeni peninsula, a short drive from the Grand Resort Lagonissi.
