Das Stue

Berlin - Germany

Das Stue epitomises everything that’s great about Berlin: cool and cosmopolitan, but at the same time infused with history and pan-European significance.

The main building, constructed in the 1930s, once housed the Danish Embassy, and the curved stone façade lends the hotel a touch of gravitas and period charm. Beneath this Germanic exterior lies a Mediterranean warmth, with contemporary interiors by Patricia Urquiola and high-concept dining from multi-Michelin-starred chef Paco Pérez.

Das Stue’s location on the edge of the Tiergarten is hard to beat; the hotel is within walking distance of all the main sights, as well as the famous LGBT nightlife of Schöneberg. It’s also right next to the zoo, so don’t be surprised if you look up from your drink to find you’re being watched by a curious ostrich!

Nearby Attractions

Das Stue is located on the south western edge of the Tiergarten, Berlin’s largest and best loved public park. The hotel is also right next to Berlin Zoo, with its own entrance via the Stue Bar’s outdoor terrace.

You’re within easy walking distance of all the main sights of central Berlin, including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag building and the Holocaust Memorial, and the upmarket boutiques, cafés and restaurants of Charlottenburg are just to the west.

Berlin is of course renowned for its nightlife, with something to suit just about every taste, from camped-up cabaret to banging techno. It’s a 20-minute walk from Das Stue to Nollendorfplatz, the heart of the long-established ‘gay village’ of Schöneberg, though the scene in Berlin is such that you’ll find LGBT-friendly venues all over the city.

Muted tones, soft lighting and warm splashes of colour define the 78 rooms and suites, and the classic Scandi furniture is a subtle nod to the hotel’s Danish heritage. Most rooms overlook the Tiergarten, and many also have a balcony. In-room amenities include WiFi, an Apple entertainment system, rain shower and safe. Higher grades also have a free-standing bathtub, and the top suites come with extras like a complimentary mini bar and a Nespresso machine.

The Susanne Kaufmann spa includes an indoor pool and sauna, and offers a range of revitalising treatments using natural products. There is also a fitness centre, with yoga and personal training sessions available.

Das Stue’s crowning glory is the sublime Cinco by Paco Pérez, which earned the Catalan masterchef his fifth Michelin star. The cuisine is molecular-inspired, and the nine course tasting menu is a culinary work of art that shouldn’t be missed. The Casual is a more laid back all-day venue, with a menu that includes Pérez’s innovative tapas, best enjoyed out on the terrace. There is also a sumptuous Sunday brunch and a quirky bar serving vintage cocktails and rare spirits, with regular live music.

Animal Magic

Das Stue’s proximity to Berlin Zoo is reflected in the playful décor, with animal-themed artworks and sculptures brightening up the public areas. Hotel guests can skip the queues thanks to an exclusive entrance to the zoo via the bar’s outdoor terrace, and hopefully you’ll meet Stuy the red kangaroo, who was born at the zoo in 2016 and is sponsored by the hotel.
