The Golden Triangle of Art
Madrid’s cultural epicentre is the ‘Golden Triangle of Art’, a cluster of three magnificent galleries. The star attraction is the Prado, a world class collection of Spanish, Italian and Flemish paintings by masters including Goya, Velázquez and Bosch. The Reina Sofía Museum focuses on modern art, and is home to Picasso’s tortured masterpiece Guernica, while the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum bridges the gap between the classic and the contemporary, with works by Monet, Van Gogh, Cézanne and more.
How to get here...
You can fly direct from various UK airports to Madrid, with carriers including British Airways, Iberia and easyJet. Flight time is approximately 2½ hours.
Catalonia Gran Via is located on one of the city's main thoroughfares, Gran Via, and is around 20 minutes’ drive from Madrid airport.
An excellent public transport system and congested roads mean that a hire car isn’t recommended for Madrid, though it may be worth considering if you want to get out of the city and explore.
