Nearby Attractions

There are some lovely scenic walks and trails in the immediate vicinity, and the town of Gioiosa Marea has plenty of restaurants and bars. There is also a gym and wellness centre in the town, and one of the villa hosts is a personal trainer if you want to book a private session.

There are some great beaches around Gioiosa Marea, and a bit further along the coast you’ll find picturesque spots such as Capo d’Orlando and the Laghetti di Marinello nature reserve. It’s also possible to organise a boat trip across to the volcanic Aeolian Islands.

Other recommended day trips include the picturesque town of Taormina, a couple of hours’ drive away on the slopes of Mount Etna, and the fascinating city of Palermo, former stronghold of the Mafia. Laurence (the owner) has excellent knowledge of the local area and Sicily in general and is happy to point guests in the right direction.

The villa is spread over three levels, and each floor has a spacious sun terrace. There are two double rooms, one of which has a small sea view balcony, plus one single room. There are two shared bathrooms, a communal lounge with TV, a dining room and a kitchen.

Spend lazy days lounging by the stunning infinity pool, then head up to the top floor terrace for the best view of the magnificent sunsets. There is also a games room with a pool table, and the owners are on hand for any tips or advice you might need on making the most of your time in Sicily.

A filling continental breakfast is served on the terrace (weather permitting), and guests are free to use the kitchen and help themselves to tea or coffee. Your hosts can also arrange a traditional Sicilian dinner in the villa prepared by a local mamma, or a special dining experience at a home in the neighbouring village (both subject to availability).

Meet the owners...

Sam & Laurence decided to escape the hustle and bustle of London in May 2017, choosing instead a new life in Sicily where they set up home together at Casa Piccolo Paradiso.

Sam is an ex-professional rugby player where, at the peak of his playing career, he played for England 7’s and Saracens. Laurence, who's mother was Sicilian, is an Italian speaker and has been a frequent visitor to Italy throughout his life. Before making the move out to Sicily, Laurence held a number of senior roles for major tour operators in the UK and has over 30 years experience in the travel industry.

Together, Sam and Laurence have created a beautiful homestay in the heart of a quintessential Sicilian hamlet, Santo Stefano. Their overriding philosophy is to promote and encourage inclusiveness and in their home everyone is extended a warm, friendly and courteous welcome.

Sicilian Cuisine

One of the real highlights of a holiday to Sicily is the fantastic food. A history of occupation by foreign powers has created a unique cuisine, distinct from mainland Italy. Top dishes to try include arancini, rice balls that are a staple of Sicilian cooking, and caponata, a slow-cooked dish of vegetables, olives, raisins and pine nuts. Visitors with a sweet tooth will love cannoli, a type of tubular pastry oozing with creamy ricotta, often with chocolate chips or candied fruits mixed in.
