A haven of retro chic in the Sonoran Desert, this former motel in Palm Springs is well worth pulling over for.
Ace Hotel & Swim Club combines classic mid-century style with a hip and unpretentious vibe. This is a fun and friendly place where like-minded travellers sip craft beers and cocktails, party at the pool and huddle round the fire pit as the stars twinkle over the desert.
It’s a popular choice for LGBT travellers in a famously gay-friendly town, with a weekend-long party for Pride every year. But it’s also a restful and relaxing place with a fantastic spa, in an ideal location for exploring the many delights of southern California.
Includes return economy flights. Two people sharing a room for 3 nights, departing in September 2018. Contact us for your specific requirements. From price for guidance only, all subject to availability.

- Many rooms with patio and outdoor fire pit
- Two large pools with DJs playing tunes at the weekends
- Restaurant overseen by award-winning chef Carlos Salgado
Ace Hotel is situated in the south of Palm Springs, the famous spa town in the heart of the Sonoran Desert. Travellers are lured here by the bohemian vibe, vintage shopping and mid-century architecture, and the hotel is less than a mile from downtown.
Strike out into the desert and visit the starkly beautiful Joshua Tree National Park, a weird and wonderful landscape of rugged mountains, arid plains and spiky yucca trees. Other oddball attractions include Salvation Mountain, a towering artwork in the middle of the desert.
More mainstream activities on offer nearby include golf, horse riding, rock climbing, tennis and plenty of hiking trails, and you can also hire a bike to explore the city.
Eclectic furnishings lend an individual character to each of the 176 rooms, and all are equipped with a flatscreen TV, WiFi, iPod dock and mini bar. Many rooms open onto a garden patio, some with an outdoor fire pit, while others have quirky features like a record player and vintage vinyl collection.
There are two large pools, with DJs spinning tunes at the weekend. Other facilities include a gym and the aptly named Feel Good Spa, which makes use of organic ingredients from Body Deli. Communal fire pits are scattered around the grounds, and there is even a dog park for four-legged friends.
The King’s Highway roadside diner was once a Denny’s, now overseen by award-winning chef Carlos Salgado. The Amigo Room Bar specialises in craft beer and artisan cocktails, with regular live music, karaoke and Monday night’s ‘Fabulous Bingo’ with Shirley Claire, which is great fun. The hotel also hosts parties to coincide with local events and festivals such as Coachella and Gay Pride.

Desert Modern Delights
The Ace Hotel & Swim Club is a great example of ‘Desert Modern’ architecture, a style that originated in the western US during the early 1930s. Palm Springs was at the centre of the movement, as Hollywood stars flocked to this Californian oasis and fuelled a boom in innovative design, inspired by the freedom and space of the desert.
How to get here...
