Laurence Hicks has had many years’ experience managing and leading tours around the world. Travelling has always been his passion and profession, and in recent years his successful travel industry friends & family tours to China, Vietnam, Cambodia and India have proved both successful and popular. Sam Stanley, his partner, is an ex-professional rugby player and together they make the perfect touring hosts.

Local experienced and knowledgeable guides will also accompany the group throughout the tour. These guides provide an excellent service locally are fully equipped with the local knowledge, history, language and culture of all the destinations that are visited on the tour.

Day 1 & 2

fly to siem reap

Depart from London’s Heathrow airport on Friday 9th November 2018 at 11.00hrs with Vietnam Airlines. Your flight will take you via Hanoi where you will change airline and fly to Siem Reap, the start of our tour. Upon arrival at Siem Reap airport mid-afternoon, we will be greeted by our local guide and transferred to our hotel. Time to relax and freshen up and following an introductory welcome briefing early in the evening, we head out to discover Siem Reap's bustling night markets then head into the town centre to witness its vibrant night life. No trip to Siem Reap would be complete without a visit to the famous “Pub Street” host to lively bars, cocktail lounges, restaurants and night clubs.

Day 3

Today will be spent exploring the ancient city of Angkor, the seat of the Khmer empire between the 9th - 15th century and host to over 1,000 temples. Starting in the walled city of Angkor Thom, the 12th century masterpiece Bayon Temple then the stunning Ta Prohm Temple. In the afternoon you explore Angkor Wat, easily the most famous and best-preserved of all temples within the Angkor complex. The tour continues with a trip to Pre Rup Temple where you will witness a spectacular sunset over Angkor Archaeological Park.

Day 4

An early transfer to the airport for a morning flight to Saigon. Upon arrival we will visit Saigon’s highest skyscraper, the Bitexco Building. We continue with a leisurely walking tour, which begins at the old Saigon Post Office then across the street to Saigon's Neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral which is one of the city’s major landmarks built between 1877 and 1883. View the vibrant pulsing streets of the city centre as you walk along Dong Khoi Street to Saigon’s gothic 1901 Opera House then finishing the city tour at the lively Ben Thanh market. Dinner will be taken along the Saigon River on board the Bonsai Cruise.

Day 5

Directly after breakfast we will head to the “rice basket of Vietnam” the Ben Tre province. Upon arrival you will tour the local village of Huu Dinh before boarding our vessel for a cruise along the wide meandering Mekong Delta. The cruise will break for a sampan trip (narrow wooden canoe) on the An Hoa River and an easy bicycle ride to visit a traditional Vietnamese village and local rice paper and noodle business. Lunch will include a delicious 5-course meal consisting of fresh locally prepared specialities. We will return to Saigon in the afternoon where you will be free to explore the bustling city at leisure and sample local street food.

Day 6

This morning we will take a short flight to Da Nang from where we will transfer to our hotel located in Hoi An Ancient Town. In the afternoon we will walk the ancient streets of Hoi An, lined with Chinese traders’ homes and wooden houses many of which are still occupied by the descendants of the merchant families who built them over 200 years ago. Much of the ancient cities old building have been reincarnated as restaurants, cafés, and outlets for local artists, craftsmen and tailors but have retained their character. We will explore the beautiful 16th century Japanese Bridge the Chinese temple and the bustling town market. Dinner this evening will be served in a local Hoi An restaurant.

Day 7

Today is completely at your leisure to explore what is arguably Vietnam's most tourist-friendly town. You can visit a local tailor who will turn around a garment in 24 hours or take an optional escorted scooter ride tour of the surrounding countryside. You can take a stroll visiting the numerous craft shops selling locally made goods. There are also numerous ferry/boat rides taking you into the local lush and rich countryside. Weather permitting, you may just prefer to chill out on the nearby sandy beaches. Your guides will be on hand to suggest optional excursions and things to do. Dinner will be at the famous “Happy Ending” restaurant in town.

Day 8

After a morning at leisure, we will transfer to the airport for a short flight to the charming and lively city of Hanoi. With a population of approximately four million Hanoi was known as the “Paris of the Orient” with its lakes, shaded boulevards and leafy open parks. Towards the evening, we will tour the Dong Xuan Market. Once the scene of fierce fighting between Vietnamese resistance forces and the French, today this market is now a bustling, thriving wholesale centre. From the market we will visit the Old Quarter, a “must-see” on any trip to Hanoi.

Day 9

We will depart after breakfast for the long drive across the Red River Delta to embark on a beautifully crafted wooden junk boat for an overnight cruise in the legendary seascape of Ha Long. After settling into cabin accommodation, we will be served a delicious seafood based buffet lunch. In the afternoon, the cruise reaches a tranquil area of the bay where you will be able to relax, swim or kayak. The day ends on the sundeck with an aperitif while the sun sets and then it is time for a cooking demonstration before dinner. We will overnight in a comfortable private cabin with en-suite bathroom. Please note: cruise itinerary is not fixed some activities will be weather dependent.

Day 10

If you are an early riser, you may start the day with some calming Tai Chi (optional), which is accompanied by an amazing sunrise backdrop and the quiet breath-taking beauty of the bay’s landscape. After breakfast, the boat weighs anchor to sail to the beautiful Cua Van floating village. Here you can choose to kayak or take a traditional rowing boat to discover local life on the Ha Long waters. A final meandering course through the limestone islands and rocks will bring us back at the dock where we will disembark and journey back to Hanoi. In the evening, we will take a unique street food tour taking us from a local Hanoian market into the city’s old quarter where we will discover the unique flavours of Vietnamese cuisine.

Day 11

Today’s Hanoi city tour begins with a visit to the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s house-on-stilts and the nearby One Pillar Pagoda. It then follows on to the Temple of Literature, built in the 11thth century and finishing with the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2010.

Day 11 & 12

Following the conclusion of the city tour, we will be met by our coach and transfer to Hanoi Airport where we will depart for the direct flight to London Heathrow Airport, arriving the following day.
