A message from the Managing Director

Over the years I have been lucky enough to travel extensively around the globe, both in a professional capacity working for a tour operator and as an individual seeking to relax and unwind. I have experienced my many adventures both as a (seemingly) heterosexual man and as a gay man.

Travelling as a gay couple can often present itself with challenges, often from the point of arrival at a hotel reception desk. I have lost count of the many times myself and my partner have had to explain to a receptionist that “No, it is correct, we’d like a double room please!” In addition to the same-sex challenge there is a generational difference between myself and my partner, and having to explain that Sam was not my son, godson, nephew (etc.) became tiresome to say the least. I found myself seeking out hotels that I knew welcomed diversity, or I would look for destinations where I knew we’d be welcomed in the same way any other couple would be regardless.

I realised that I needed to take into account a few other considerations when planning my travel around the world. Local laws and attitudes vary considerably in different destinations and having one reference point to understand these properly when planning a holiday became essential. However, I struggled to find a website that I could rely upon to locate the kind of holiday I was seeking together with the appropriate local advice, hence the inspiration for creating Inclusive Retreats. The company is specifically dedicated to bringing together as many LGBT-owned, friendly and inclusive properties from around the world in one place, as well as easily identifying local attitudes to those who identify as LGBT.

I would like to feel that with the launch of Inclusive Retreats others can now quickly and painlessly discover places and properties around the world that they can book, knowing their experience will be a positive and inclusive one!

Laurence and his partner Sam are at the centre of the LGBT community and frequently attend local prides, LGBT functions and events. Laurence has over 30 years experience in the travel industry and has held a number of high profile senior positions with well known tour operators. He brings a wealth of experience to Inclusive Retreats, both from a travel and LGBT perspective.

Inclusive Retreats is a trading name of Tonic Travel Group Limited and holds an Air Travel Organiser’s License which is issued by the Civil Aviation Authority to companies who it considers financially fit to operate air inclusive travel arrangements. Our license number is 9218 and its validity can be verified at any time by checking the CAA Consumer Protection web site at http://www.caa.co.uk/home/

Many of the accommodations, flights and flight-inclusive holidays on this website are financially protected by the ATOL scheme. However, ATOL protection does not apply to all holiday and travel services featured on this website. Please ask us to confirm what protection may apply to your booking. If you do not receive an ATOL Certificate, then the booking will not be ATOL protected. If you do receive an ATOL Certificate but all the parts of your trip are not listed on it, those parts will not be ATOL protected. Please note that when you book a flight directly with a scheduled airline or low cost carrier, in the event that they financially fail and you are unable to fly as a result, your money is totally UNPROTECTED and unless you have paid for your flight by particular methods i.e. debit card, you will NOT receive any refund. Where ATOL financial protection is provided, the cover costs £2.50 per passenger and we collect this amount on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority and pass each collected fee directly on to them.
